NEW DELHI, July 17, 2024: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued new directives to higher educational institutions (HEIs) to register on the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) portal and assist students in creating ABC IDs during admissions. The UGC aims to enhance the tracking, transfer, and redemption of academic credits earned by students.

UGC ABC Portal Implementation Mandate:

  1. Registration and Setup: HEIs must register on the ABC portal, establish an ABC cell, and designate a nodal officer for the implementation of the ABC scheme.
  2. Student Support: Institutions are to guide students in applying for ABC IDs on the portal. The UGC emphasizes making the ABC ID a mandatory field in admission and exam forms, and on student identity cards if possible.
  3. Promotion and Awareness: HEIs should display posters and templates about the ABC scheme in high-traffic areas such as canteens, libraries, and notice boards. Additionally, they should organize seminars and workshops to inform and publicize the scheme within campuses and affiliated colleges.

UGC ABC ID Mandate:

The University grants commission has also advised HEIs to make the ABC ID a mandatory field in admission and exam forms, and on student identity cards if possible. Additionally, institutions are encouraged to put the nodal officer’s details on their websites and seek the help of NEP SAARTHIs in assisting students with the creation of ABC IDs at the time of admissions. The University grants commission further ordered HEIs to display posters and templates on ABC and place them in areas with maximum student movement, such as canteens, libraries, and notice boards.

UGC ABC Data Upload:

  • On-boarding and Data Upload: HEIs that have not yet on-boarded the ABC portal are required to do so and upload academic data with students’ earned credits from the academic year 2021-22 onwards.
  • Nodal Officer Details: Institutions should display the details of their nodal officers on their websites for transparency and accessibility.
