At the recently held pre-release event of Kalki 2898 AD in Mumbai, veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan recalled his first reaction when offered the role of Ashwatthama in the film by director Nag Ashwin. Starring Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani among others, this upcoming sci-fi film is slated to be released worldwide on June 27, 2024.

Amitabh Bachchan was asked by his Kalki co-star Rana Daggubati about his initial reaction to the role at the pre-release event. “Nagi came and explained the idea of Kalki 2898 AD. After he left, I thought, what the hell is Nagi drinking? To think of something like this is absolutely outrageous. Some of the visuals that you have seen just now are unbelievable. To have somebody conceive a project that is so futuristic is amazing”, said Big B in his response to Daggubati.

He further added, “No matter what Nag Ashwin thought of, he actually got all the material and effects to match his vision. It has been an amazing experience working for Kalki 2898AD which I will never forget.” He also appreciated director Nag Ashwin for coming up with such a great concept.

About Kalki 2898 AD:

Kalki 2898 AD is a futuristic dystopian film that merges Hindu mythology with science fiction. Set in a post-apocalyptic world in a desertified city of Kasi, the film revolves around Kalki, the tenth avatar of Lord Vishnu, and the cruel god-king Supreme Yaskin. According to a prophecy, a child carried by Deepika Padukone’s character, will overthrow the king, which pushes him to put a bounty on her head. Prabhas plays the role of Bhairava, a legendary hunter recruited to capture her, while Ashwatthama is destined to protect her.

Kamal Haasan, on the other hand, plays the role of an antagonist in the film. Talking about his role, the actor said, “I thought I was going to play the bad man so it’s going to be fun. But then Nag Ashwin wanted it to be different. I’m almost like a sage in the film with a bad idea. We had a lot to talk about the look, and also not look like something else that I had done already or somebody else had done already.”

Kalki 2898 AD is written and directed by Nag Ashwin. Whereas, the film has been produced by C. Aswani Dutt under the banner of Vyjayanthi Movies. The film has been made with an estimated budget of around 600 Crores INR.
