In a recent event in Kolkata, renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap made a controversial statement about feminist filmmakers, claiming that 90% of them are frauds.
Kashyap, who has been a part of the film industry for nearly three decades, opened up about the state of the industry and shared his opinions on feminist filmmakers. He stated, “The filmmakers who seem to be feminists, socialists, revolutionaries… Let me tell you that 90% of them are frauds. They’re all posturing. After so many years of trying to put together so many independent filmmakers, I’ve realized that independent filmmakers are the worst. Because all they’re doing is pulling each other down and calling each other names”.
He further added that there are two types of commercial filmmakers: opportunists and those who are very honest about only wanting to make money and make hit films. He expressed his disappointment with the current state of independent cinema, stating that instead of supporting each other, filmmakers are busy pulling each other down.
Kashyap’s comments have sparked a debate in the film industry, with many questioning his views. The impact of his statement on the industry and feminist filmmakers remains to be seen.
