Bangladesh are all set to take on Netherlands in a crucial Group D clash in the ICC T20 World Cup at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, Saint Vincent tonight. Both the teams are equally poised to go for the win, which will ensure qualification for the Super 8 stage, as South Africa has already qualified to the next stage from the group.

With one spot remaining from the Group D to qualify for the Super 8, Bangladesh can expect a strong fight from their Dutch opponents. The Bengal Tigers are currently placed at the second position, right below South Africa, with one win in their bag in two matches that they have played so far. On the other hand, Netherlands are also tied with Bangladesh in the points table, but slightly behind Bangladesh in net run rate.

Bangladesh, led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, kicked off their World Cup campaign with a narrow-margin win against Sri Lanka in their first match. They also came close to registering their second win against the Proteas, but fell short in the end by four runs against the Group toppers. The fact that Bangladesh required only 11 runs from the last over with 5 wickets in hand, and still failed to come through, will surely haunt them in the upcoming matches of the campaign.

On the other hand, the Netherlands team are punching above their weight in the 2024 T20 World Cup, especially with their bowling line-up. They won their first match of the tournament against Nepal, before giving a tough fight to South Africa which saw the match go down the wire. Although in the end, they lost the match by four wickets, the Scott Edwards-led team still managed to get applause from all around for their never-give-up attitude.

Bangladesh need to sort out their opening pair, which is yet to click in this tournament. In their last match against the Proteas, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto promoted himself up the batting order to open their innings after dropping their regular opener Soumya Sarkar. But that did little to help their cause, as both him and his opening partner Tanzid Hasan couldn’t add more than 15 runs individually to their scoreboard.
