Delhi Capitals (DC) pulled off a stunning victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in a nail-biting Super Over finish in the 24th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on Tuesday.
Chasing a modest target of 147, DC were in trouble at 76 for 5 in the 12th over, before Rishabh Pant (49 off 32 balls) and Axar Patel (25 off 15 balls) revived their hopes with a 51-run partnership. However, MI fought back with some tight bowling and fielding in the death overs, and took the game to the Super Over after DC could only manage 146 for 7 in 20 overs.
In the Super Over, MI batted first and scored 11 runs, with Kieron Pollard hitting a six off Kagiso Rabada. DC needed 12 runs to win, and sent Pant and Shreyas Iyer to face Jasprit Bumrah. The duo ran hard between the wickets and scored 10 runs off the first five balls, leaving DC with two runs to win off the last ball. Pant kept his cool and flicked the ball to the leg side for a boundary, sealing a thrilling win for DC.
Earlier, MI posted 146 for 6 in 20 overs after opting to bat first. Quinton de Kock (35 off 27 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (34 off 23 balls) were the top scorers for MI, while Amit Mishra (2 for 28) and Axar Patel (1 for 17) were the pick of the bowlers for DC.
