In the latest turn of events, former Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry is reportedly showing mutual interest with the Baltimore Ravens for a potential deal in free agency. This news comes as the Titans have decided to replace the four-time Pro Bowl running back with Tony Pollard.
Henry, a four-time Pro Bowler and the Offensive Player of the Year in 2020, has had an illustrious career with the Titans. He has amassed 9,502 career rushing yards with 90 career touchdowns in 119 games. In the 2023 season alone, he had 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns.
However, the Titans’ decision to sign Pollard to a three-year, $24 million deal seems to have ended any hopes of Henry returning to the team. Pollard, 26, was a fourth-round pick by Dallas in 2019 out of Memphis. He has had back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons with the Cowboys.
Despite Henry’s impressive career totals, his older age at 30 could impact his market as well as his astounding usage. He has led the NFL in carries in four of the past five seasons, including three seasons with more than 300 carries. This could make some teams view him as a player who could be worn down or close to it.
While the Titans, Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, and Green Bay Packers are assumed to be out on Henry, plenty of suitors will inevitably arise. A one-year deal, $10 million deal with a contender like the Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans, or Dallas Cowboys could be expected for Henry.
As the NFL Free Agency legal tampering window continues, the landscape of the league is changing significantly. Derrick Henry’s next move will undoubtedly be one of the most anticipated developments in the coming days.
