Hungary and Switzerland are all set to start their Euro 2024 campaign on Saturday, June 15 when they face each other at the Cologne Stadium in Koln in an exciting Group A clash. Both the teams will look to start their European campaign with a win, which would go a long way in ensuring qualification for the knockout stage.

The Hungarian team has arrived on the back of an amazing run of form that saw them stay unbeaten for around 20 months until last week, when they lost to Republic of Ireland in an international friendly match. Under the coaching of Italian boss Marco Rossi, Hungary topped their Euro qualifying group with 18 points from eight matches, which sent the team for a third consecutive appearance at the Euros this year.

On the other hand, Switzerland, despite being a decent team on paper, have been struggling with form in the recent months. Despite finishing second in their Euro qualifying group, which saw them amassing 17 points in 10 matches, there have been question marks about their recent form. The Granit Xhaka-led team will hope to get back on their toes, as the presence of big names in their squad like Manuel Akanji, Xherdan Shaqiri, and Fabian Schar should instill some confidence in their performance.

Both the nations are joined in Group A by Scotland and hosts Germany, the latter of whom started their campaign with a thumping 5-1 victory over the Scots. The last time Hungary and Switzerland locked horns with each other in a world tournament was back in the 1938 World Cup, where the former beat the latter by 2-0 margin. Although, in their last two meetings, Switzerland came out victorious by quite a considerable margin, scoring eight goals in the process.

Both the teams have also participated in the previous edition of European Championship, where Hungary exited from the group stage and Switzerland going out in the Round of 16 at Euro 2020.
