New Delhi, August 6, 2024 – Union Health Minister JP Nadda announced today that the number of Medical colleges in India has nearly doubled over the past decade. This significant growth was highlighted during the budget discussions for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s 2024-25 fiscal allocations.

- Increase in Colleges: The number of Medical colleges in India surged from 387 in 2014 to 731 in 2024.
- Growth Rate: This represents an 89% increase over ten years, reflecting substantial development in India’s medical education infrastructure.

- Undergraduate Seats: Undergraduate medical seats rose from 51,348 to 112,000, marking a 118% increase.
- Postgraduate Seats: Postgraduate seats saw a 133% increase, significantly enhancing opportunities for specialized medical training.

- Budget Rise: The health sector budget increased by 164%, from Rs 33,278 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 90,958 crore for 2024-25.

- Financial Performance: Since 2018, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has earned Rs 3,513.98 crore, with 87.2% spent on conducting exams.
- CUET Impact: The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) has driven a 78% increase in earnings from 2021-22 to 2022-23.
