Noida, March 17, 2025 – A Noida-based businessman has reportedly fallen victim to an alleged scam involving an Mayank Upadhyay interior designer who promised high-quality 3D designs and home decor services but failed to deliver after receiving an initial payment.

According to the businessman, who wished to remain anonymous, he was approached by a person identifying himself as Mayank Upadhyay, who claimed to run a company with 100-200 employees specializing in interior design and home decor. Impressed by Upadhyay’s portfolio and professional demeanor, the businessman agreed to hire his services for ₹20,000.

He showed me impressive designs and brought 4-5 people with him during our meeting, which made his operation seem legitimate, the businessman told our reporter. He demanded an advance payment of 10%, which amounted to ₹3,000, which I transferred online.

However, problems began shortly after the payment was made. Instead of beginning work as promised, Upadhyay allegedly only sent a few online photos and then demanded more money before he would proceed with any actual work.

When the businessman attempted to contact Upadhyay to discuss the project details and arrange a site visit with contractors, his calls went unanswered. He completely ignored my requests and eventually stopped picking up my calls altogether, claiming that it wasn’t his job, the businessman explained.

The victim believes he has been ensnared in an elaborate scam designed to extract money without providing the promised services. He made grand promises about what he could deliver, but after taking the advance payment, there has been no response, he added.

Upon investigating the company website mentioned by Upadhyay, the businessman discovered what appeared to be fake information. Sources suggest that the alleged scammer may have operations extending beyond Noida to Indirapuram and Faridabad areas as well.

Authorities advise consumers to thoroughly research interior design services before making any payments, check references from previous clients, and consider payment structures that tie compensation to specific deliverables rather than substantial upfront payments.
