GREATER NOIDA, August 16, 2024 – The Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower at Noida International Airport in Jewar has been completed and officially handed over to the Airport Authority of India (AAI), marking a significant milestone in the development of India’s next major aviation hub. Dr. Arunveer Singh, CEO of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), announced this crucial update.
The ATC tower, integral for the airport’s operational readiness, is now set to undergo comprehensive testing and certification by the AAI. Although the project faced a delay of five months from its original March 2024 completion date, the overall timeline for the airport’s first phase remains intact.
Noida International Airport ATC Tower Completed
Situated about 60 kilometers from Noida, the Noida International Airport is poised to become a pivotal aviation hub. The greenfield project, with a total investment projected to exceed ₹29,560 crore, includes a ₹5,700 crore investment for the first phase alone. This phase features a terminal designed to accommodate 12 million passengers annually and one operational runway.
Managed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh and Indian governments, the project underscores the airport’s strategic role in boosting connectivity and economic growth in Delhi NCR and western Uttar Pradesh.
Noida International Airport and Development Timeline
The airport’s concept was first proposed in 2001 by then Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Rajnath Singh. After initial delays and a proposal to move the site in 2012, the project was revived in 2018 under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Land acquisition was completed by 2020, and Zurich Airport AG secured the development contract.
Major infrastructure includes a 760-meter road linking the airport to the Yamuna Expressway, with significant milestones achieved, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foundation stone laying in November 2021 and the assignment of the IATA code “DXN” in 2023.
Impact on Regional Connectivity and Growth
The completion of the ATC tower, alongside ongoing terminal and runway construction, marks substantial progress. Once operational by late 2024, Noida International Airport will significantly enhance regional connectivity, ease congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, and serve as a vital gateway for both international and domestic travel.
The airport’s full capacity will reach up to 70 million passengers annually, positioning it among India’s largest and most advanced airports.
