Alakh Pandey the Founder and CEO of Physics Wallah, questioned the integrity of the National Testing Agency (NTA) as grace marks were obtained by 1,563 NEET students, he demanded more transparency in the code of conduct of the examination.

Public Interest Litigation (PIL), filed by Pandey on June 9, 2024, in the Supreme Court asking how the figure of 1,563 students was obtained by NTA, who has received the chance to either reappear for the exam on June 23 or accept their original scores.

Pandey said, NTA results were out on June 4 for the NEET-UG they didn’t tell of the grace marks. The information provided was only about the students who scored 718 and 719 marks (which is not possible according to the format), did NTA disclose anything about giving grace marks? This brought up serious questions about the working of NTA, “Were grace marks given in previous years and similarly not disclosed?”

The founder and CEO said “What is the exact number of students given grace marks — 1,563 or more? Why are only 1,563 students being given a second chance to reappear for NEET? What about other students who have also suffered loss of time? How did the NTA arrive at the number 1,563?”

The PIL filed by Pandey has also requested the Supreme Court to form an expert committee to verify the examination process and the results declared by NTA. Pandey says since June 4, 2024, when the NTA declared the NEET-UG result and full marks were obtained by 67 aspirants, over 20,000 students have reached him via mail and social media in search of justice.

Pandey, whose career started through the ed-tech journey by uploading educational videos on YouTube made on his phone to help the students for JEE-NEET, in an interview said “Our platform provides courses at very cheap rates, which is why …at least 8 lakh of the 24 lakh aspirants who gave the exam this year are students who have been with us for years. This is why I decided to fight this fight.”
