NOIDA, August 8, 2024 – The Yamuna Authority region is set to become the epicenter of electronics manufacturing in Uttar Pradesh, as the state government unveils plans for its first Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC). In a significant move to boost the state’s industrial landscape, the Yogi Adityanath-led government has submitted a proposal to the central government, seeking a substantial grant of INR 140 crore for the development of common facility centers and crucial infrastructure within the EMC.
Yamuna Authority: The Chosen Hub for Electronics Innovation
The Yamuna Authority, already a burgeoning industrial zone, has been strategically selected for the development of the EMC under the central government’s EMC 2 policy. Approximately 200 acres of prime land in Sector 10 of the Yamuna Authority region have been earmarked for this ambitious project, signaling a new era in Uttar Pradesh’s industrial development.
Dr. Arunvir Singh, CEO of the Yamuna Authority, emphasized the project’s significance, stating, “The EMC is poised to be a game-changer for our region. We anticipate it will not only attract substantial investment but also generate significant employment opportunities, further cementing Noida’s position as a key industrial hub.”
Havells India: Anchoring the Noida EMC
At the heart of this transformative project is Havells India, a leading name in the electronics industry. The company has committed to establishing its state-of-the-art manufacturing unit on 50 acres within the EMC, serving as the anchor unit for the cluster. This move is expected to catalyze the development of a robust electronics manufacturing ecosystem in the region.
Investment and Collaborative Growth
Havells India’s commitment to the project is substantial, with plans to invest INR 800 crore in the initial phase of the EMC development. To ensure comprehensive and efficient growth, Havells will spearhead the creation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in collaboration with other industry players. This innovative approach will see partner companies receiving developed plots from Havells for their respective manufacturing units, fostering a collaborative industrial environment.
Central Government Support & Infrastructure Development
The central government’s agreement to provide a grant of INR 140 crore underscores the national importance of this project. These funds are earmarked for the development of common facility centers and other essential infrastructure, laying the foundation for a world-class manufacturing hub.
Diverse Product Portfolio
The Noida EMC is set to become a powerhouse of electronics production, focusing on a wide array of sectors:
- Automotive Electronics
- Industrial Electronics
- Consumer Electronics (including fans, ACs, and coolers)
- Medical Electronics
- Computer Hardware
- Telecom and Networking Equipment
- E-Mobility Components
- Switch Gears
This diverse product focus positions the EMC to cater to both domestic and international markets, potentially boosting India’s electronics exports.
Yamuna Authority: A Magnet for High-Tech Projects
The EMC marks the second major high-tech project in the Yamuna Authority region, following the successful establishment of the Medical Device Park (MDP). Developed on 350 acres in Sector 28, the MDP aims to ensure India’s self-reliance in medical equipment manufacturing, a critical lesson learned from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The central government has already demonstrated its commitment to the region’s development by granting INR 100 crore for the common facility center in the MDP. The project has gained significant momentum, with 74 plots allocated and construction already underway on two plots.
Impact on Noida’s Economic Landscape
The establishment of the EMC in the Yamuna Authority region is expected to have far-reaching effects on Noida’s economic landscape. By focusing on cutting-edge electronics manufacturing, the cluster aligns perfectly with India’s push towards becoming a global hub for electronics production.
Industry experts predict that the EMC will create a ripple effect, attracting ancillary industries and fostering a comprehensive electronics manufacturing ecosystem. This, in turn, is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, significantly boosting the local economy.
Noida’s Tech-Driven Future
As the Yamuna Authority prepares to welcome this groundbreaking project, the future of Noida’s industrial sector looks increasingly tech-driven. The EMC, coupled with the existing MDP, positions the region as a frontrunner in India’s journey towards technological self-reliance and global competitiveness.
The development of the EMC in the Yamuna Authority region not only reflects the government’s commitment to the “Make in India” initiative but also sets the stage for Noida to emerge as a key player in the global electronics manufacturing landscape. As the project moves forward, all eyes will be on the Yamuna Authority region, watching as it transforms into a beacon of India’s technological prowess and industrial might.
